Bio
Kristina Palett (born 1994, Kosteryovo, Russia) is a contemporary artist exploring the fleeting nature of memory, the relationship between the material and immaterial, reality and imagination. Palett graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. She has participated in group exhibitions and art fairs in the USA and Russia. She currently lives and works in Moscow.
Kristina works primarily with painting , drawing and ceramics, actively using watercolor, colored pencils, and oil. Her works are distinguished by complex textures achieved through sanding and layering. Her recent series are dedicated to the exploration of sound. The artist attempts to translate sound into visual form, to represent what is heard as abstraction. As Palette notes, her works resemble musical improvisation—she begins with random strokes, around which the final composition is built.
In another series, Weird Pics, she reinterprets her experience of living in New York, where she wandered the streets as a flâneur, documenting strange and surreal moments of urban life. Years later, she transformed these images into paintings, adding imagined details.
